Shades of Red is Equitas Health’s one-of-a-kind World AIDS Day celebration.
The event features a fashion show with designs from local BIPOC designers worn by local BIPOC models. All of their unique creations are in -you guessed it- shades of red.
This annual event benefits Equitas Health’s Brothers in Unity (BIU) program, which provides support, affirmation, and HIV prevention services to same-gender loving men of color in Columbus, Ohio. BIU combines affirming social spaces with HIV testing and access to PrEP to help end HIV in BIPOC communities.
The event also uplifts the stories of community members who are living and thriving with HIV. Each year, BIU honors two community members with the Shades of Red Living Legend Award. The award celebrates the strength and resilience of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Founded by Equitas Health’s Volunteer Manager, Sawaun Blakely, Shades of Red is more than just a great party – and it is a really great party! Shades of Red is also a call to action. Shades of Red challenges stereotypes, fosters unity, and raises awareness and funds to continue the fight against HIV/AIDS. And it does it with style!
